Tibetan Camp

Last week, everyone was telling us that the monsoon was over. Turns out they were a little premature as there has been downpours for the past three days. Usually starting around 5pm and going into the night though today they started around 3. Torrent would be a mild way of describing the onslaught of water.
At any rate, we've been managing. Yesterday we went for a day hike up the local hill. It was a couple hours up in the blazing sun and we were rather sweaty by the time we reached the top. There were plenty of little restaurants up there so we ate lunch and watched the paragliders soar about. They look really fun. Once the rains clear up and the views are better we plan on trying it.
Work is going slowly. Tibetans aren't really known for their fast pace of life. Or fast anything. We made a website for their settlement in hopes to attract more tourists so we're should that to the camp elders this week to get their approval. Right now it's at canadanavigator.com/tashi but once we get the green light we'll move it.
We decided we needed to get more exercise so we talked to one of the dudes who works at our hotel about where the local gym is. This guy is a body builder and the regional kickboxing champion so he took us to his place. It's located down a back ally, through some gardens, around a random house/shack, and in a long shed. It's one room with a bunch of free weights and even more nepali men. It's very poorly ventilated and is 10 degrees hotter than the outside air. There are body builders from the '80s on the walls and the only machine there doesn't work. We became members.

  1. Haha that gym experience reminds me exactly of the gym I went to in Tanzania. Glad to hear the project is moving forward albeit slowly. Hope the weather clears up for you guys! Keep it real out there.
